Tormach PCNC 1100 Series

This is Chapter 1 in my Tormach PCCN 1100 vlog series. Today, we are going through my pre-purchase criteria. I have finally decided to purchase the mill based on a variety of factors (have room in the new shop, Tormach has the upgraded spindle). This video is an overview of the rational behind why I chose the Tormach over its competitors as well as details on the accessories I plan on purchase.

This is Chapter 2 in my Tormach PCCN 1100 vlog series. I purchased the mill today! Chapter 2 walks through the final purchase details, all of the info on S&H, more information about why I chose the Tormach over its competitors and finally what the next steps are!

The eight UPS packages have come! This is everything except the mill and stand.

At the last minute, I decided that the ceiling needed some TLC. It was plaster and had large pieces missing due to electrical/plumbing repairs by the former owner. Now was the time to do it… Plus a very quick update on the TTS tools and sprutcam

A ‘draft’ of my Tormach Tooling System tool setup – a combination of end mills, spot drills, twist drills, a woodruff key cutter, face mill and tapping head.

Engine crane is assembled. In Chapter 6, I discuss how I plan on receiving the two freight pallets tomorrow – all in light of the space requirements and how “tight” my shop space is. I’ve got 114″ of width, so it should be OK, but I think it will be important to have the pallet with the stand go in first.

Mill has arrived! My Tormach PCNC 1100 has arrived and is ready to be unboxed!

Milling the first part on the Tormach PCNC 1100! Making the first chips is always exciting. I’m using a 2-flute, 1/4″ HSS end mill at 4,000 RPM and 30 IPM on a block of 6061 Aluminum and a 38MM face mill at 1,000 RPM and 30 IPM.

Now that I’ve made a test part, I need to spend some time determining the accuracy and correct set up of the mill. This video is actually a question for the Tormach community: is my mill leveled correctly? Any advice?

Using a 1/2″ x 13 TPI bolt to lift the mill base off the stand in order to tram the mill. The bolt is only a temporary and convenient way to lift the mill; once I figure out which feet need adjusted and by how much, I will use shims.

Using a custom fixture to drill, mill and tap multiple parts for batch processing on my Tormach PCNC 1100. Operations include spot drilling, drilling, tapping and profile milling. Fixture uses side-profile clamps from Gilbralter (similar to mitee-bite)
