Introduction to Fusion 360

​This two day introductory class focuses on the basics of using Fusion 360 in the machine shop, including CAD and CAM. No prior experience is required. Computers are provided, although you are welcome to bring your own laptop.

Hands On CNC Machining Class

This three day class will be focused on the operation and use of CAD, CAM and CNC milling machines! Students will use Fusion 360 CAD & CAM and Tormach and/or HAAS CNC mills. Computers are provided, although students may bring their own laptop.

Class Prerequisites:  You must be comfortable with basic computer operation (Microsoft Windows, using a computer mouse).  No machining or Fusion 360 prior experience is required.  For those who have never used CAD before, we recommend our 2-Day Intro to Fusion class (which precedes this class).

Curriculum:

  • Fusion 360 CAD
  • Fusion 360 Drawings
  • Fusion 360 CAM
  • Prepping raw material
  • Recommended Machine Shop & Measuring Tools
  • Machining – Operation and Use of Tormach CNC Milling Machines
    • 1100, 770 and 440 Machines available (Tormach ticket) or HAAS VF2SS / VM3 (HAAS Ticket)
    • PathPilot
    • Edge Finding
    • Setting up tools, tool holders, tool heights
    • Fixturing and Work holding
      • Clamps, vises, fixture, jigs, plates, etc
    • Measuring tools, quality control

Fixturing & Advanced CAM Class

This two-day, hands-on class is focused on workholding, fixturing & Advanced CAM.

Curriculum:

Workholding & Fixturing:

  • Overview of workholding strategies
  • Review and discussion of 50+ fixture examples
  • Hands-on review of soft jaws, fixture plates, Mitee-Bite, Carr-Lane and other workholding and fixturing tools
  • Discussion of workholding strategy, including balance of time, cost, fixture life, process reliability and setup time.
  • Fixturing Best Practices (marking fixtures, swap-able, keeping soft jaws in pairs)

Advanced CAM:

  • Modeling Fixturing & Workholding systems
  • Multiple setups & coordinate systems
  • 3D toolpaths
  • Advanced toolpath containment
  • Rest Machining
  • 4th Axis and 3+2 Machining

PREREQUISITES: Must be comfortable using Fusion 360 CAD and CAM.
